The 226-room Le Pavillon Hotel recently completed a $19 million renovationAshford Hospitality Trust converts the 226-room Le Pavillon Hotel in New Orleans to a Tribute Portfolio property. The property recently completed a $19 million renovation, which included extensive exterior work, upgrading the restaurant, guestrooms, guest bathrooms, corridors as well as a reimagined hotel lobby bar.
The new lobby bar, Bar 1803, draws inspiration from the rich history of Le Pavillon and New Orleans, honoring the year Emperor Napoleon signed the Louisiana Purchase. Legend has it Napoleon conceived the idea while soaking in a marble bathtub filled with rose water—one of which (perhaps the very one) resides in one of the suites.
The bar's design showcases this heritage with a striking image of Napoleon and a lenticular art piece capturing two sides of the French icon: a 'serious' Napoleon and a 'spirited' one. This playful nod reflects New Orleans' French roots and vibrant culture. Inspired by the amber hues of iconic NOLA cocktails, Bar 1803 blends history, elegance, and the unmistakable spirit of New Orleans into an unforgettable experience, paying tribute to the city's enduring legacy and the hotel's storied past.
The Le Pavillon Hotel is known as the "Belle of New Orleans." It sits adjacent to the historic French Quarter, is located only four blocks from the celebrated music clubs of Bourbon Street and is close to the famous restaurants and antique shops of Royal Street. Originally the site of one of the area's first great plantation homes, the Le Pavillon Hotel was built in 1907 and is a member of Historic Hotels of America.
"We are thrilled to announce the successful conversion of this iconic property to Marriott's Tribute Portfolio," Stephen Zsigray, president and CEO of Ashford Trust, said in a statement. "With its prime location near key demand drivers in downtown New Orleans, this transformation positions the hotel to stand out as a premier destination in the vibrant New Orleans market. We expect that completing this conversion ahead of Super Bowl LIX and Mardi Gras will position the property for an exceptional start to 2025. This milestone reflects our commitment to maximizing asset value, and we are confident it will drive enhanced financial performance for this property."

Remington Hospitality acquires Chesapeake's expertise and legacy of excellence as the company expands national operations
DALLAS, April 18, 2022 — Remington Hospitality, a dynamic and growing hotel management company, has acquired Chesapeake Hospitality's hotel management expertise, and legacy of excellence. With 65 years of experience helping hotel owners and real estate investors in the eastern United States discover their properties' full potential, Chesapeake joins Remington Hospitality with a complementary vision and mission.
The acquisition expands Remington's footprint to Midwestern markets, including Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Detroit, and St. Louis. Additionally, Remington will expand its portfolio of IHG and independent properties in several locations and will manage its first Wyndham property. Though the two companies will be operating under the Remington Hospitality brand, all former Chesapeake hotels will remain under the same management and can expect the same exceptional service.
Chesapeake has a long and storied reputation as a results-driven, culture-forward, high-performance organization with an eye for helping clients achieve their full potential through exceptional guest experiences. Chesapeake was built on a legacy of creating asset value by performing deep turnarounds, re-branding, and re-positioning, which is critical in the competitive, post-pandemic hotel management marketplace. Joining Remington will unlock expanded resources that will take what clients love about Chesapeake and supercharge it, driving hotel success and enhanced profitability. Chris Green — Chesapeake's current CEO who joined Chesapeake over 21 years ago — will serve as Divisional President of Remington.
"I'm so proud that Chesapeake is joining Remington, a company that is known for its stellar results and has made a real cultural shift in the hotel management space," said Chris Green, Divisional President of Remington Hospitality. "This partnership will be a practice in blending two companies that have operated in different geographical lanes and have a steadfast commitment to doing what is best for their clients and employees. I'm looking forward to taking the service our clients know and love to the next level as we access the resources Remington has to offer."
Committed to thoughtful company growth, Remington Hospitality has been pursuing an organization with similar standards and strengths with which to partner. Chesapeake and Remington are both defined by their core values as much as their core competencies. With Chesapeake's tagline being "experience what's possible" and Remington's being "where passionate people thrive," the two companies are fully aligned and are both associate-focused, ultimately providing better hotel owner and guest service.
"Though the hospitality space has faced massive challenges over the past few years, Remington has remained steadfast in its commitment to being the best hotel manager in the industry," said Remington President and CEO Sloan Dean. "By melding Chesapeake's culture and know-how with ours, we'll be able to cultivate even stronger relationships with our properties' owners by providing them with more resources, better economies of scale, and a more satisfying guest experience."
With the completion of this transaction, Remington Hospitality will have a portfolio of 121 managed properties under contract in 28 states and Washington, D.C. As a result of the acquisition, Remington's mix of third party hotels will increase from approximately 20 percent to approximately 40 percent. The combined company will be headquartered in Dallas and oversee all day-to-day operations of the entire national portfolio of properties. The same management teams will still be in place to deliver the same level of service owners and guests expect.

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Mark Noles to Remington Hospitality as our Vice President of IT.
Our new Steamboat Springs hotel brings an elevated level of luxury with a down home Steamboat twist to the area. With spacious lodging, curated local experiences, and spirit to serve, the Residence Inn by Marriott Steamboat Springs is excited to welcome you!
Stan Kennedy, COO of Remington Hospitality, said hotels will keep hand sanitizing products by the doorways. "Sanitation wipes and hand sanitizers at all of the entrances to the outlets is critical," he said.
Mike Trzcinski, chief information security officer and SVP of IT operations for Remington Hospitality, said his company and department have been "minimally staffed" during this downturn but they've sought to prioritize the areas that matter.
"The priority is on business operations and maintaining a staff to support the business as it operates today," he said in an email interview.
He said Remington has had to reorganize responsibilities among remaining staff to live up to their mission of "uninterrupted service."
Don Falgoust, vice president of F&B execution and strategy at Remington Hospitality, returned to the management company this year amid the COVID-19 outbreak after 15 years working with an ownership group. Seven weeks into his new role, Falgoust told LODGING that while Remington's hotels remained open as essential businesses throughout the pandemic, most properties have been forced to operate with skeleton crews and virtually no food and beverage staff. "The pandemic dictated the closure of F&B offerings," Falgoust said. "It was not only from an economic standpoint—which was pretty much a no-brainer—but also [in response to] government and local mandates."
"We've discontinued buffets at our hotels that have reopened their F&B programs. We're offering complimentary to-go bags with fresh fruit, muffins, juice and energy bars, for example, and we've amplified our grab-and-go offerings for breakfast at other properties," says Don Falgoust, vice president, F&B strategy and execution for Remington Hospitality. "Guests in general have no desire to partake in buffets right now and are appreciative of our pivot to a safer environment."
Remington Hospitality President Sloan Dean said there has never been a period where constant communication with employees, both active and furloughed, has been more important.
Before the crisis, Remington employed 7,000 associates. That number dropped to 500 in April. While the number of employees has climbed back up to roughly 2,000, Dean said it could be years before the company reaches the employment levels it had before.
Dallas-based Remington Hospitality has rolled out new guidelines for all its properties that include enhanced cleaning protocols and updated training systems. The company is collaborating on best practices with multiple brand partners, including Marriott and Hilton, to protect the well-being of guests and associates in response to COVID-19.
"The airline and auto industries are huge oligopolies and have been bailed out several times to save jobs," said Remington Hospitality CEO Sloan Dean. "Nothing has ever been done for hotels. Even if we are a bunch of small businesses, we are still a huge employer. Our fragmentation is why our lobbying efforts haven't been as successful."
As hotels continue the process of safely reopening, many are thinking outside the box to make guests feel safe. At Remington Hospitality' Lakeway Resort and Spa in Austin, for example, each event guest is given a "stay healthy" kit upon arrival that includes hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks. (The 168-room hotel is also offering hybrid meeting packages.)
Loretta Macke, SVP of sales at Remington Hospitality, said in an email interview that clients have mostly postponed their meetings and events at her company's hotels for the rest of 2020. She said there is still some meetings business, but it's common to see much smaller groups.
Remington Hospitality is a partner in a deal in Steamboat, Colorado, that was supposed to open in July and would have opened in August, but it was waiting on cabinets from China, said President and CEO Sloan Dean. Any project sourcing products from China is going to see a logistics problem, he said. The property will open in October or November ahead of ski season.
Remington Hospitality said in a company release on 4 May it has devised a program of enhanced cleaning procedures as well as revised employee training. The third-party management company is collaborating on best practices with its brand partners such as Marriott and Hilton.
Remington Hospitality has begun maximizing outdoor space and using non-traditional areas for serving food, such as pool decks. However, the seating capacities for doing so are limited, said Don Falgoust, VP of food-and-beverage strategy execution.
Johnathan Kennedy, area GM of The Ashton in Fort Worth, Texas: "While we have always maintained very high cleanliness and sanitation standards, we have elevated efforts by increasing the frequency of disinfecting in public spaces and focus on areas of high touchpoints in guestrooms. We've re-evaluated all services and offerings and value-engineered items that were not seen as a pillar of the hotel image or reputation. Staffing and purchasing decisions are made daily and controls enhanced. Transient leisure demand is the first to return, so the digital marketing is extremely critical. We're requiring all staff to maintain the updated (PPE) standards at all times."
The industry, said Remington Hospitality President and CEO Sloan Dean, is dealing with three types of customers: Those who want lots of visible evidence of sanitary standards, those who are annoyed by any evidence of adhering to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines—and those who fall somewhere in between these two extremes.
One of the ways in which hotels are adapting to the pandemic is reassessing how they interact with you, the guest. "Daily housekeeping included in the room rate will be a thing of the past," says Sloan Dean, CEO and president of Remington Hospitality. "Many hotels are already only providing a deep COVID-19 clean prior to arrival and post checkout. Mobile and contactless check-in will be the new norm. Mobile key adoption has been on the rise exponentially over the last few months."
DALLAS (June 11, 2020) - Remington Hospitality announced today the appointment of Don Falgoust as Vice President of Food & Beverage Strategy Execution, who will lead all F&B initiatives for Remington Hospitality' 78 properties.
"It's a lot more palatable to say you're going to cut 30% of your travel, versus lay off more people," said Sloan Dean, chief executive of Remington Hospitality, which operates nearly 90 properties for brands that include Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt. Though some of Mr. Dean's properties are seeing business travel by government and health-care workers, hotels in cities such as Chicago, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere that rely on business guests are largely empty, he said. "I think there will definitely be companies where they never reinstate their travel."

Program includes enhanced cleaning procedures and revised employee training programs
DALLAS (May 4, 2020) - Remington Hospitality, a leading third-party management company that operates 78 hotels in 24 states across the United States, is rolling out new guidelines for all properties that include enhanced cleaning protocols and updated training systems, in addition to collaborating on best practices with multiple brand partners including Marriott and Hilton, to protect the wellbeing of guests and associates in response to COVID-19.
"Remington Hospitality is rolling out a multi-pronged approach to address necessary safety and cleaning measures in response to COVID-19. These measures include enhanced cleaning and safety protocols across all 87 hotels, a revised training program for all Remington Hospitality associates and a revamped approach to food & beverage," says Rob Carl, Remington Hospitality' VP of Facilities and Capital Planning and appointed lead for the company's COVID-19 Response Committee.
As part of the company's response, Remington Hospitality aligned with an industrial hygienist to develop a COVID-19 mitigation program for all hotels that outlines procedures in the event of a guest or associate being infected. As well, each Remington Hospitality property is now utilizing EPA-registered disinfectant products with proven efficacy in killing respiratory viruses, including COVID-19. Additional steps taken to enhance cleaning procedures include:
The health, safety and knowledge of Remington Hospitality' associates are imperative to an effective cleaning program. To meet these criteria, the company has adopted the following heightened protocol:
Remington Hospitality is supplying each of its 87 hotels with the proper protective gear to ensure associates can safely welcome guests and work together, including reusable masks from fellow Texas-based company, Dallas Wear Uniforms. The company, which traditionally makes uniforms for sports teams, has repurposed its factory to manufacture PPE due to COVID-19.
Further, company leadership, including Rob Carl, COO Stan Kennedy and Senior VP of Operations Joe Masi, represent Remington Hospitality on several leading industry committees who are collaboratively working towards determining best practices moving forward, including AHLA's Stay Safe Advisory Council, Hilton's CleanStay and Marriott's Global Cleanliness Council. In turn, Remington Hospitality leadership is implementing key learnings from these committees across the company's hotels.
"We hope that these enhanced measures will help provide both our staff and guests with a sense of ease in these difficult times," says Stan Kennedy, COO of Remington Hospitality. "We look forward to continue welcoming our valued guests to our properties across the country thus allowing us to bring our associates back from furlough."

"I think their short-term stays are going to be impacted in a large way, and when you start to get into long term rentals, it starts to compete with a whole different industry than hotels."
